About Transgender Day of Remembrance:

Every year on November 20, “Transgender Day of Remembrance” (TDOR) is observed to pay tribute to the memory of transgender individuals who lost their own lives as a result of acts of anti-transgender aggression.

Rita Hester: Rita Hester was a transgender woman who was murdered in 1998, and transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith started it by organizing a memorial in her honor in 1999.

The surveillance remembered all the transgender people eliminated from abuse since Rita Hester’s death and began an important tradition that eventually evolved into the annual Transgender_Day of Remembrance.

How to Pay Tribute to TDoR

In order to pay tribute to all the transgender individuals who lost their lives to anti-transgender violence that year, you can take part in Transgender Day_of_Remembrance by planning or attending prayers on November 20. You can also learn more about the violence that transgender people face.

Why Transgender Day of Remembrance is Established:

The Transgender- Day of Remembrance (TDoR) is a day established to honor and remember transgender persons who have lost their lives due to their gender identity. It’s also a day for spreading awareness of the harassment and prejudicial views against transgender people.

You can participate in the Transgender Day of Remembrance  in the following ways:

  • Attend or organize a TDoR event in the area where you live.
  • Contribute to an organization that encourages transgender individuals in your community or friends.
  • Please find out about the problems that transgender people deal with and help them to solve them.
  • Advocate for acts of violence and prejudice produced towards transgender individuals.
  • Show your neighborhood’s transgender residents your support.
